NAWAL was established in Guatemala in 2014 and officially launched in June of 2015 through a Kickstarter campaign, with the objective of empowering women through fair trade job opportunities while creating unique masterpieces (products) that give back to the communities.
Since then, we have partnered with amazing talented artisans and have donated some of the profits to different charities that are focused on children living in extreme poverty, so that they have the ability to attend school and access to nutritious meals.
One of these charities is PASSION ASOCIACION.As mentioned previously, our products are masterpieces. Each one of them is unique in its own way as there aren’t two of the same. The textiles we use are woven by hand in a backstrap loom, and depending on the complexity of the design, they can take one to six months to make. Many of our boots and bags are made of upcycled Mayan huipils (women blouses). We decided to give them a second life since these pieces preserve their beauty and colors over the years and it is really important for us to create great quality products and to be part of the “Slow Fashion Movement”.
Our mission as a company is to bring attention to Guatemala, continue to create jobs, and assist Guatemalan children while bringing a little piece of this beautiful country to different homes around the world through NAWAL.Thank you for your support and for being part of our beautiful journey.
Your Nawal is assigned to you at birth and has heavy influence on your character, nearly the same way the zodiac does. When you know the meaning of your Mayan Nahual, you can harmonize your own energy and actions with it for greater success in every aspect of your life.
Combined with a number from 1 to 13 it’s called a Mayan day sign. There are 260 different combinations, the same number of days used in sacred Mayan astrology.
